Post-consumer recycled materials (PCR) are reprocessed plastics derived from end products that have completed their life cycle as consumer goods and would otherwise have been discarded as solid waste products. These include plastics that have been collected in the residential and commercial recycling programs.

Environment-friendly packaging products have become tremendously popular lately as a vast number of market players are opting for more sustainable design owing to the number of plentiful advantages of using recycled materials.

Consumer plastic waste includes bottles, films, and foams, and others, while post-consumer plastic waste management includes recycling, recovery, and disposal of plastic waste. These systems ensure the safe collection, segregation, storage, transportation, processing, and disposal of generated plastic waste and also ensure that no harm is caused to the environment during this process. For this, the process is undertaken in compliance with the regulations and standards prescribed by governments or related associations.

The global post-consumer recycled plastics market is anticipated to grow at a steady CAGR in the forthcoming years.

MARKET DRIVERS:

The growth of this market is attributed to major relying factors including; the growing demand for using recycled products to produce packaging materials, the growing demand for packaging products, the global rise in awareness programs that are associated with sustainable waste management practices, the increasing plastic consumption in the production of lightweight components used across various industry verticals, the rapid advancement in plastic recycling, the increasing government initiatives to reduce the impact of plastic on the environment,  increasing research and development investments in the recycling of plastics and the increase in foreign investments in the construction market, etc.

Additionally, an increasing inclination in terms of collection, domestic recycling, recovery of plastic, the export of plastic waste, and implementation of legislative regulations has progressively been observed in the global market for post-consumer recycled plastics. These activities have comprehensively contributed to the growth in demand for methods, solutions, and services pertaining to plastic waste management, which in turn has augmented the market for post-consumer recycled plastics.

Moreover, the surge in demand for plastics in developing countries, and the collaborations between the public and private sector for the management of plastic waste is anticipated to boost the growth of the post-consumer plastics market.

Furthermore, growth in demand for packaging products due to rise in eCommerce, development of residential, industrial, commercial, and public infrastructure, rapid urbanization across the globe, rapid advancements in technologies in producing post-consumer recycled products and materials, growing government initiatives on promoting post-consumer recycled plastics businesses, advancements in processing and sorting technologies allowing a wider variety of plastic to be recycled into high-quality resins, continued support by federal, state and local governments for recycling efforts and an improved collection infrastructure which raises the plastic recycling rate will further enhance the growth of the market.

However, factors such as the less participation of residential sector in the management of plastic waste, the lack of skilled & trained professionals, FDA regulations in practice for packaging food products across the globe, shortage in the supply of recycled plastic packaging products, the high costs of recycling plastics, the absence of a required framework for the collection of waste and segregation and fewer treatment plants hinder the growth of this market.
