Israel has one of the most mature consumer electronics markets in the region, with a vibrant start up community and strong government spending on ICT , in large part through the military, resulting in high penetration of PCs and smartphones. Although this leaves little opportunity for reaching new customers, Israel's rise as a key hub for global IT and CE vendors' research and development centres over the last several years will help ensure continued replacement demand for consumer electronics products over the five years to 2019. In January 2015, the Ministry of Communications awarded LTE spectrum to six mobile operators, which will enable them to launch full scale LTE services. BMI expects this to lead to a burst of upgrades to 4G-enabled handsets among consumers, and to contribute to a continued rise in tablet PC s ales , as operators seek to build value on their upgraded networks through encouraging multiple device usage.

  • Computer hardware sales: USD2.24bn in 2014, up 4.1% y-o-y in US dollar terms. Rising tablet sales put pressure on notebooks, while desktop sales continue to be supported by robust defence and IT markets.
  • AV sales: USD562mn in 2014, up 5.6% in US dollar terms. Driven by sales of Sony and Microsoft gaming consoles and smart TVs.
  • Handset sales: Outperforming segment of the consumer electronics market, rising 9.4% to USD1.286mn in 2014, as the launch of LTE networks in H214 encouraged upgrades to 4G-enabled handsets.
