Czech Republic Consumer Electronics Report Q2 2015
Headline Expenditure Projections
Computer hardware sales: USD1.2bn in 2014 to USD1.2bn in 2015, growth of 3.0%. Tablet sales growth is again forecast to outperform in 2015, but the emerging opportunity in the hybrid notebook market will offer vendors a potentially higher margin growth channel.
AV sales: USD642mn in 2014 to USD656mn in 2015, up 2.2%. Saturation and price erosion in the TV set market, combined with the cannibalisation of digital camera volumes following smartphone ownership proliferation will make AV the underperforming category.
Handset sales: USD639mn in 2014 to USD703mn in 2015, up 10.0%. The handset market will continue to be the most dynamic market segment as smartphone volumes boom in 2015 and over the medium term, even as smartphone saturation and price erosion takes hold.

W e expect consumer electronics sales growth will accelerate in 2015, after the market narrowly returned to growth in 2014 . There is however downside, with surveys of retailers indicating koruna depreciation could result in price increases in the PC and AV markets in 2015. Our core scenario is for stronger growth across all three segments in 2015, but in the event of price rises in t he PC and AV markets the trend could be similar to 2014 when s martphone sales boomed, offsetting a decline in computer hardware and AV sales as koruna depreciation squeezed demand. Looking further ahead, t he largest opportunities are in the mobile PC segment (tablets/hybrid notebooks), Smart-TVs and smartphones, with medium term upside potential if wearable device s gain traction with consumers. These trends will reinforce the Czech Republic's position as one of the most lucrative in Central and Eastern Europe . However, there is downside risk, with the potential for a re-escalation of the eurozone crisis following the election of Syriza in Greece, or a worsening of the security situation in Ukraine to undermine the recovery in confidence levels .
