Peru Consumer Electronics Report Q2 2015
Headline Expenditure Projections
Computer Hardware Sales: USD1.0bn in 2014 to USD1.0bnn in 2015, +4.1% in US dollar terms. Low penetration means growth potential for both traditional form factors and tablets, although it will be the latter that outperforms.
AV Sales: USD1.05bn in 2014 to USD1.07bn in 2015, +1.7% in US dollar terms. As TV set upgrade demand was brought forward by the FIFA World Cup in Brazil in 2014, we expect growth to slow markedly in 2015.
Handset Sales: USD1.01bn in 2014 to USD1.03bn in 2015, +1.3% in US dollar terms. Handset sales growth expected to slow considerably from 2014 due to a combination of diminished first-time buyer opportunities and intense price competition between vendors.

Rising incomes, relatively low penetration rates and declining device prices regionally will combine to ensure robust medium term growth for Peru's consumer electronics market 2015-2019. Cheaper smartphones and wider availability of wireless data services will also contribute to the strong growth. Our economic growth outlook envisages middle-class incomes rising due to Peru's broad based growth in contrast to much of the rest of the region, which yields a positive outlook for demand for notebooks, tablets and flat-screen TVs. However, we caution that risks are largely weighted to the downside as weaker metals prices put pressure on the growth outlook. Delays in the switchover from analogue to digital TV might also have a negative impact on TV sales. BMI forecasts consumer electronics sales to grow by 2.4 % in 2015, to reach a total of USD3.14bn .
