With feature phones falling into disuse, smartphones was not capable of sustaining the entire category. Nonetheless, while the category decreased by 1% in volume terms, the evolution of value sales is evidence of Portuguese consumers’ increasing demand for technologically-developed products. With smartphones proliferating in the market and constant releases of improved features, consumers feel compelled to acquire newer and more expensive products. This fact has been evidenced by the value sales’ evolution registered over 2013 and 2014.

Competitive Landscape

The extraordinary investment in marketing and promotion enabled Samsung to be the leader of smartphones and feature phones in Portugal.
