In 2014, electronic sports (e-sports) which are video game competitions, continued to help sustain demand for desktops, especially in the higher-end segment with a higher performance. However, as consumers switched from desktops to laptops due to mobility, overall desktops continued to face declining sales. Consumers commonly replaced desktops with laptops with over 14-inch screen size and higher performance capabilities.

Competitive Landscape

In 2013, local manufacturer AsusTek Computer Inc led computers with 21% retail volume share, an increase from 2012. The Asus brand is very active in laptops, netbooks and tablets. Asus laptops have affordable prices, advanced technology, attractive appearance, strong brand reputation, and channel partners' support. In 2013, the company launched a new series Zenbook, which has a unique appearance with glass showing a fashionable design. Within desktops, Asus showed positive growth in 2013 despite many other players recording decline. Their target consumers are businesses and elderly people for desktops. These consumers have strong consumption abilities and are willing to purchase high-quality products. Lastly, Asus has been innovative and launched many new tablet products that boosted its sales within tablets and other portable computers. It launched the fonepad MeMO pad at a reasonable price point. Asus also cooperated with Google, and in 2013 the company launched new generation named Nexus 7, which was easy to carry, and offered a high performance and complete Google system service.
