Bath and shower remained popular due to its main characteristics of satisfying basic needs but also used for hair cleaning as in the case of shower gel body and hair. The increasing level of education and the improvement of running water supply in small localities and the countryside contributed to the increasing consumer base and the good growth rates in 2013. The availability and awareness remained high in 2013 with noticeable presence in all the retail channels and across the country. The natural ingredients content and skin benefits also played an important role.

Competitive Landscape

Colgate-Palmolive Romania retained leadership in 2013 with 21% value share. This was the result of its leading position in bar soap and liquid soap with the brands Palmolive and Protex and second position in body wash/shower gel. With two main brands on the market, Colgate-Palmolive Romania targeted two different income segments, the lower-medium end with Palmolive and the upper-medium end with Protex. It was challenged by Beiersdorf Romania in second place with 16% share, leading body wash/shower gel, and Unilever South Central Europe in third place with 13% value share due to its brand, Dove.
