The category's consumer base also includes wealthy foreign expatriates as well as tourists and hotel guests. However, cigars are increasingly gaining popularity among young consumers due to rising affluence.

Competitive Landscape

Societe Marocaines des Tabacs maintained its category dominance in 2013, commanding a retail volume share of 99%. Despite the opening up of the local market in 2011, no major manufacturer has ventured into cigars, whose sales are low when compared with cigarettes. 'Others' accounted for a share of less than 1% and tend to be represented by cigar clubs which import their own products from other countries, with these generally being premium handmade cigars.
