Products within the computers and peripherals category continue to be in high demand in Indonesia. The fact that the penetration rate is still low helps boost sales. The increasing availability and usage of the internet in the country has also driven the multiple uses of the products within the category. Tablets, with a high popularity, are mostly used for entertainment while laptops are still preferred for work-related purposes. Although netbooks has shown declining volume sales, its latest technology has been a new alternative.

Competitive Landscape

Acer Indonesia PT managed to comfortably lead the computer and peripherals category in 2012, thanks to its contribution in computers. However, its non-presence in peripherals and small volume share in tablets and other portable computers has caused the company to decline in volume share over the review period.

Industry Prospects

A stable volume CAGR of 7% expected in the forecast period for the computers and peripherals category. With the increasing mobility of the urban population, more consumers will buy portable computers – especially laptops and tablets – in the forecast period as they are seen as essentials, and they will no longer be considered as luxury any more. Meanwhile, desktops is set to decline and peripherals are set to increase only slightly in terms of volume CAGR growth during the forecast period.
